Fire Resistance of Wood-Framed Wall Assemblies: Computer Model and Full-Scale Test

The author has developed a series of computer models to predict the fire resistance of wood-framed walls and floors. The models utilize two-dimensional heat-conduction equations and thermo-physical property data to describe heat transfer through the assemblies. Those models for wall assemblies and floor/ceiling assemblies have been described and published in journals and conference proceedings. Recently, the author has developed a new model, "HTwall" for the better and more accurate prediction of heat flow through the wall assemblies than the previous models have ever made. The new model, "HTwall" is based on a new calculation program including Crank and Nicolson implicit method to solve heat conduction equations in wood and gypsum boards. The calculated results were compared to the results from the full-scale standard fire-endurance tests and a good agreement was observed.
