SECURING WIRELESS ACCESS FOR VEHICULAR ENVIRONMENTS

An Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) technical architecture has been developed basedon IEEE 1609 Wireless Access for Vehicular Environments (WAVE) standards for securevehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure wireless communication. This studyexamines the wireless security technology, IEEE 1609.2, WAVE Security Services forApplications and Management Messages, as an Identity and Access Management solution tothe challenges of the ITS model program. An examination of the working modeldemonstrates the use of a 1609.2 Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) to manage ITS actors,messaging and applications using DSRC/WAVE communication services.
