ERTMS Deployment in Spain as a Real Demonstration of Interoperability. Near Future Challenges

This paper presents the real deployment of ERTMS in all the new Spanish High Speed lines. The paper shows not only the high level of interoperability reached in Spain, where almost all the ECTS suppliers are present in both track and on-board subsystems, but also the near future challenges that shall be overcome to continue a successful ETCS deployment. These challenges can be summarized in three important issues; 1.1 Execution of interoperability tests in a laboratory, 1.2 Reduction of up to now ETCS increasing costs and 1.3 Migration of lines in commercial exploitation to new releases of the specifications.
