The simulation of strong ground motion in near source region has been paid more attention byseismologists and engineers because it could help the seismologists to understand the source processesmore in detail, and also the engineers to take some aseismic procedures to mitigate the structural damageaccording to the possible earthquakes. More simulation methods to generate the ground motions havebeen developed within last decades, and some have been using till now.In this paper, the finite fault method proposed by Silva (1990), Beresnev and Atkinson (1997,1998) isadopted to simulate the three dimensional motions in near source region because the active faultgeometrical dimensions have significant affections to the distribution of ground motions in amplitude,frequency and duration. We simulated near source ground motions of past earthquakes, like Northridge,by using our suggested source spectral models and parameters, and the results indicated that it has betterconsistence between the predicted and recorded ones as compared with the models before, which certifiedthe efficiency of our improvement. Of course, it still has some problems need to improve further.
