The influence of Cu administration on rats

This study wants to detect if an excessfull administration of Cu could produce alterations of different tissues of the rats. We used for this study 2 groups of white Wistar rats, which were kept in similar experimental conditions and received the same food. The first group was the witness group and didn't receive any substance. The second group received CuSO_4, 0.1 mEq/kg weight/day, intraperitoneal administration, in a unique daily dose, 28 days. Our study suggests that a prolonged administration of Cu can produce variable injuries of kidneys, lungs and testis. In all the studied tissues we have observed that Cu has an action on the blood vessels. This fact could partially explain the destructive effects of Cu on the kidneys, lungs and testis of the rats.
