Learning from Offshore Decommissioning Practices in Europe and the USA

Decommissioning in Australian waters is a relatively newrnactivity as only two installations have been fullyrndecommissioned to date. The precedents set byrndecommissioning projects and regulations elsewhere in thernworld should be raising questions with the Australianrnoperators and regulators such as the feasibility of anrnAustralian rigs-to-reef program, the acceptabiity of dumpingrninstallations to sea, and the management of public concern. Inrnconsidering these issues the Australian operators andrnregulators should not underestimate the value of informationrnand experience that is available from the international forum.rnInformation may be sourced from regulatory authorities,rnoperators, personal contacts, in-house personnel withrninternational experience, and literature and internet searches.
