After extensive study and pilot testing the Town of Sturbridge, Massachusetts chose to upgradetheir conventional extended aeration treatment facility with a combined BioMag and CoMagtreatment system. Design was completed in 2009 and construction commenced in 2010. Theproject was completed and started up in the summer of 2012.Results from the facility have shown that the system is very stable under variable flow conditionsand nutrient removal capabilities have been demonstrated to TN < 3.0 mg/l and TP<0.5 mg/l.Facilities for foam control included in the design have allowed operators to control nuisancefoam via both surface wasting from the aeration tank and through chemical addition. Gravitysludge thickening facilities have produced waste sludge solids concentrations in the 4 to 5%range.
