摘要

Volatile organic compound (VOC) reduction is one of the most important challenges for paint and coatings formulators today. Light stabilizers are generally hydrophobic materials which require emulsification or dissolution in cosolvent before addition to water based latexes and dispersions. Progress has been made in the encapsulation of these hydrophobic additives utilizing heterophase polymerization techniques which reduce/eliminate demand for cosolvents in aqueous binder systems. This paper will give an update on this technology which has now been successfully applied to triazine, benzotriazole, and hindered amine light stabilizer chemistry. Supporting data will be given to show efficacy of these materials compared to standard light stabilizer technology.
