High flood stages in the Peoria-Grafton reach o the Illinois River can be lowered by makign linitee-sized operaings in a few levees so that the areas behind such levees cna be usede for temepoorary storage of floodwater when the flood elevations exceed the elevations of the operings or inlfow sections.An unsteadyt flow model was appleid to study the potenital reduction in flood elevations due to the converson of the areas behind selected levees to managed flood storage areas.The nalaysis also includes the determination of the optimal redution in flood peaks for various dimensions of the inflow sectins and for various combinaitosn of managerd storage areas.
