Current status and best management practices for american catchment systems

The concpet of rainwater collection as a viable,alternaitve source of both potable and nonpotable water is gaining acceptance in several areas of ht eUnited states.A critical element for the adoption of this concept by more American households is the proper design and construciton of rainwater catchment systems.Current recommendatiosn from the states of Hawii and Ohio are reviewed because existing state recommendatiosn may evolve into mandatory regulations.the American Rainwater Catchment System Association(ARSCA) is addressing issues involved in the possible regulation of these systems.This paper presents initial informaiton concerning (A) sanitation issues, (B)Operation and Maintenance,and (C) Non-sanitation Design Standards.
