The Bureau of Engineering of the City of Los Angeles is responsible for the design andrnconstruction management of about $400 million worth of Capital Improvement Projects (CIP)rneach year. With 18 Divisions and District Offices and 16 separate CIP programs, over-seeing therncompletion of these projects as well as the administration of the Bureau, the need for a uniformrnand concise project tracking system is essential.rnThe CIP programs involve such diverse programs as the $100 million Los Angeles Zoornenhancement program, the $371 million Fire Department construction program, a ten year $2.1rnbillion Wastewater treatment and collection systems and the Street and Stormwater Programs.rnEach of these programs has their own unique requirements.rnNot surprisingly, multiple project status reporting systems, each with different formats and datarnrequirements, were in use throughout the Bureau to track these projects. The variations in thernreports made it impossible to efficiently produce top-level management reports that summarizernprogram and Bureau resources, costs and project progress that are essential for the properrnmanagement of the Bureau.
