摘要

Addition of Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC) to the mixed liquor of activated sludgerntreatment plants can be used to protect the plant against toxic components in therninfluent and to improve the removal of non-biodegradable COD. The Waste WaterrnTreatment plant of Waregem (Flanders, Belgium) treats a mixture of about 50 %rndomestic waste water and about 50% industrial waste water mainly from the textilernindustry. PAC is added to the activated sludge to enhance the COD and colourrnremoval and to protect the plant against toxic influents. The cost of continuous PACrndosage is significant. A control system based on an influent toxicity monitor and anrneffluent COD is proposed that should guarantee compliance with the effluentrnstandards with minimal operational cost of PAC addition.
