Requirements for submarines have continuously changed. This article describes how MTU's future submarine engine solves the issue of fulfilling these modern submarines' specifications, whilst improving the universally recognized characteristics of the proven Series 396 submarine engines. The availability of the first generating sets is scheduled for 2016.
