Specialty Phosphate Ester Plasticizers for Low Smoke Applications

As flame retardant standards become more stringent, dealing with smoke propagation issues has become a "hot button" for many applications. For flexible PVC, several approaches are possible including substituting all or a partial amount of the plasticizer package with an alkyl diphenyl phosphate or by the careful selection of additives or, a combination of both. Vinyl formulations looking at various FR plasticizer alternatives will be investigated and measured for smoke development.
