ARCO Chemical Company's new Accuflex™ low monol polyether polyols have been used to develop novel polyurethane (PU) elastomers that are suitable for a wide range of footwear applications. Accuflex polyether polyols represent a technological breakthrough that confers performance advantages previously unavailable in PU footwear systems. The PU shoe sole materials developed around this new class of polyether polyol exhibit the excellent hydrolytic stability characteristic of polyether-based polyurethane while also exhibiting a very high level of critical elastomer strength properties as well as good durability and cushioning characteristics. These elastomers can be formulated across a wide hardness and density range. Of particular significance is the capability of molding lightweight (0.26 g/cc) high performance PU midsoles.
