Blind shaft drilling as a safer alternative to conventional sinking

Safety has become a very large issue in recent years in the shaft sinking industry. The disastrous ignition of methane in a coal mine shaft in January of 2003 has brought the issue of safety in conventional shaft sinking into closer focus. MSHA, State Regulatory Agencies and Contractors have worked together in an effort to eliminate such accidents in the future.
