The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Environmental Data Exchange (ENDEX)

The Environmental Data Exchange (ENDEX) is a webrnbased, FGDC compliant "clearinghouse" solution to support andrnenhance the environmental management decision making process.rnDeveloped by the New Jersey Department of EnvironmentalrnProtection (NJDEP), ENDEX will make GIS technology andrnenvironmental data more accessible through an easy-to-use webrninterface that will guide the user through mapping, analysis andrndata retrieval. It will provide a "one-stop shopping" type of forumrnfor cooperative problem solving and for the sharing ofrnenvironmental data (including spatial data, FGDC compliantrnmetadata, statistics, analyses, documents, studies, and maps).rnAccess to environmental data through the use of FGDCrncompliant metadata will be a critical component of the ENDEXrnclearinghouse. To implement and simplify the process of creatingrnand understanding FGDC compliant metadata, the NJDEP isrnproviding a metadata entry system called NJMetaLite. This toolrnwas originally created by the United States Geological Survey andrnthe United States Environment Programme, however, it was thenrnenhanced and customized by the NJDEP to make it more userfriendlyrnand to meet the needs of New Jersey's GIS community.rnThe NJDEP will present ENDEX and NJMetaLite capabilitiesrnduring URISA's individual presentation session and also thernproject showcase. Our goal is to demonstrate to the public and tornother environmental agencies the many benefits of providing openrninformation access and data sharing.
