Development and application of airborne gound penetrating radar for environmental disciplines

Abstract: For the past three years, the Airborne EnvironmentalSurveys Division of Era Aviation, Inc. has continuedthe development and application of frequency-modulated,continuous wave radars and processes for detecting andmapping subsurface phenomena. Primary applications havefocused on the detection of man-made objects inlandfills, hazardous waste sites, and subsurface plumesof refined hydrocarbons. This paper presents adescription of the current radar systems andperipherals and associated data processing. Examples ofa recent survey are also presented.!0
