Limitations to milling productivity include tool wear, positioning errors of the tool relative to the part, spindle error motions, fixturing concerns, programming challenges, and the process dynamics. Many research studies have been completed to address these issues. Taylor established an empirical basis for the relationships between cutting parameters and tool wear, which is still used in various forms today [1]. Other issues are detailed in texts by Trent and Wright [2] and Tlusty [3], for example.
