Temporal transition enhances the consonance of color arrangements

We found a similarity between the effect of temporal chordrntransition in music and temporal color transition in visual perception.rnHuman visual impressions between a color arrangementrnand a temporal transition from a modified arrangement tornthe original arrangement were compared in experiments with sensoryrntests. The experimental results showed that the consonancernof color arrangements can be enhanced by a “pivoted” transition,rnin which some appearance parameters like hues and colorrntones are preserved, from a dissonant arrangement in comparisonrnwith a static presentation of the original arrangement. Thernresults suggest that an enhancement effect of consonance similarrnto resolution of chords in music exists in a higher order mechanismrnof human color vision.
