HANDBOOK FOR PRACTICAL RE-INSTRUMENTATION OF NORWEGIAN DAMS

This report briefly describes the content of a handbook currently being written in order to help the local surveillance engineer on the many hydro power plants ,n Norway. The book is meant to assist in defining his/hers needs for instrumentation to improve the monitoring of the old dams for which he/she is responsible These engineers are often civil engineers without detailed knowedge of the parameters to be monitored, or the technologies to measure transfer and present the data in relevant reports. The handbook will present parameters that could be important to monitor from a safety point of view, and briefly describe technologies for data acquisition transfer and storage. The book itself will not contain any information on specific products as the products change so fast that the book will be obsolete in a short while. A list of possible suppliers in the Norwegian market will be included in the handbook, which may be made available on the Internet. Only a Norweaian edition is planned.
