A method for solving the technology mapping problem fornfield-programmable gate arrays that is based on the genetic algorithm isnpresented. The genetic algorithm simultaneously optimizes a set ofnsolutions, which makes it a very powerful optimization technique.nHowever, due to the highly constrained search spaces for designnautomation problems, the application of the genetic algorithm is notnstraightforward. It is shown that this limitation can be overcome bynenhancing the genetic search appropriately. The performance of thenenhanced genetic search is demonstrated through experimental results fornthe technology mapping problem
