This paper presents a numerical analysis of the seismic inertial response of a typical soil-pile-structurernsystem, which can stand for a nuclear power plant constructed in soft soils. The study is carried out usingrna 3D finite element modeling. The structure is modeled as a one-degree of freedom system. It isrncomposed of a concentrated mass and a column.rnResults from this study show that both the mass and the frequency of the superstructure largely affectrnthe seismic response of piles. The 3D numerical results are compared with those obtained using thernWinkler’s model. This comparison shows that the latter provides satisfactory results in t he case of rigidrnsuperstructures.
