Technologies for free-space digital-optical systems demonstrators

Abstract: Optical and optoelectronic technologies have progressed sufficiently for the emergence of experimental demonstration of simple digital optical processors. For a significant contribution to the development of photonic switching and computation, a sufficiently complete set of components and sub-systems must be put alongside suitable architectures and algorithms. We review these connected factors and also report new results in power sources, modulators, and interconnections. !23
