Environmental noise issues for operators of a new railway service

Although railways are often regarded as an environmentally friendly transport system there are clearly a number of issues that concern the public. One such issue is noise, and this becomes particularly important when significant changes are made to the way trains operate. This paper examines the likely environmental impact of some of the changes a train operator may consider and suggests ways of minimising conflict with both the authorities and the local community.
