20 Years of continues improvements in TALUM Smelter

TALUM is the only primary aluminum producer in Slovenia. InFebruary 1954, the first alumina production plant was introduced,and first aluminum was produced in November on the same Year.Various lines and technologies were in operation last 54 Years.Currently the only AP18 technology is used for TALUM primaryAluminum production. AP18 pots were started in 1988. Duringlast 20 Years the TALUM continues improvements program bringus to be one of the most efficient producer of aluminum in AP18technology. The average CE of 95,28%, 13.166 kWh/t DC energyconsumption and average pot life of more then 3000 days is resultof technical improvements using best practice with minimum costapproach which mainly covers optimization of operationalparameters, improvement of cathode design, optimization ofprocess control system and application of slotted anodes as well asimprovement of anode quality.
