Pressure electroslag remelting (PESR) of titanium andrnits alloys under a Ca-CaF_2-CaO slag has been underrninvestigation as a suitable means for the refining and deoxidationrnof scraps and intermediates from alternativerntitanium winning processes. Little is known on thernsolution of Ca and F in the metal phase during ESR andrnless on the impact of these elements on properties of thernremelted material. Modelling of calcium and fluorinernactivities in CaF_2-based slags suggest that a solution ofrnCa and F in the metal can be expected in the ppmrnrange. This paper presents a review of the analyticalrntechniques presently applied to precisely track traces ofrnCa and F in titanium and titanium aluminides.
