A COMPARISON OF FLAME RETARDANT ADDITIVES FOR USE IN PLENUM CABLE FORMULATIONS

1. STQRFLAM ZB: 1.1 significant reduction in heat release 1.2 increase in fire performance index 1.3 20% smoke reduction 2. CHARMAX AOM: 2.1 very effective reduction in smoke 2.2 but lower time to ignition and high cost Combinations: ZB + MGB; AOM + ZS; AOM + ZB + MGB all have improved time to ignition and improved heat release. These results are part of an ongoing project, and further test work will be based on the following:- 1. Combinations with AOM to achieve a low level of smoke at reduced cost. 2. Replacing (partly or fully) constituents in the base plenum formulation such as Phosphates and Antimony Trioxide whilst maintaining fire performance.
