Experimental and mathematical techniques for determining the thermal and hygric properties of insulating building materials in the temperature range of 0 deg C to 1000 deg C and moisture range from zero moisture content to the maximum water saturation are analyzed in the paper. Nonadiabatic methods are preferred in measuring the specific heat. The methods based on the analysis of measured temperature and moisture fields are recommended for determining thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity and moisture diffusivity. In measuring water vapor diffusion, transient methods are preferred. Thermal and moisture expansion are treated using the superposition principle. The application of the proposed methods is illustrated by experiments with two typical insulating building materials, the significance of temperature and moisture influences for the mentioned thermal and hygric parameters is demonstrated.
