For the first time, unequal-amplitude frame-coding technique is used to insert a discrete component at the frame rate in the spectrum of the optical time-division multiplexed signal. The tone can be extracted by conventional TDM timing techniques to serve as the frame clock. It is illustrated that the extracted frame clock jitter can be reduced to less than 1ps for a 40Gbit/s(16*2.5G) data stream.
