Mt. Tianzhu National Geopark, Anhui, China

摘要

Mt. Tianzhu National Geopark lies in Qianshan County, Anhui Province. To the northwest, it is in contact with Mt. Dabie and to the southeast it borders on the Yangtze River. The total area is 135.12 km2 for the park,in which the highest peak is Peak Tianzhu with elevation of 1488.4m. Surrounded by many small peaks,it reaches to the sky like a magnificent "sky column" (the meaning of Tianzhu). In the Spring and Autumn Period,here was the feudal estate of Daifu Wanbo.so it has been also called Mt. Hon. Wan or Mt. Wan.The park is abundant in geological relic resources, including the unique and diversified granite peak clusters and hydrogeological landforms,moreover,it is the focus of world attention for its host of ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic belt and the characteristic rock,eclogite,in addition to Paleocene vertebrate animal fossils,late New Stone Age cultural site, which embodies the geological evolution history and humanity history of the Mt. Tianzhu area since 1800 Ma.Mt. Tianzhu National Geopark is established for the purpose of undertaking protection and rational utilization of geological relics in an all-round way, supporting and upgrading sustainable development in economy,culture and environment in the area. It is expected to become a base for popularization of science and a scenic spot for tourists.
