The structure and rheolog-ical properties of a concentrated lamellar liquid-crystalline nonionic surfactant system were investigated. The morphology of the samples was analyzed by polarization light microscopy, electron microscopy and small-angle X-ray scattering measurements. The rheological properties, the frequency-dependent storage and loss modulus, the creep compliance and the steady-state viscosity function were measured at different temperatures with systems containing surfactant in different concentrations. The rheological properties were described by the modified slip-plane theory. Discrepancies between the fitted curves of the model and the experimental curves were estimated as the result of the Frank stress.
