Mesoporous organic-inorganic hybrid MCM-41 was prepared using l,2-bis-(trimethoxysilyl)ethane as a precursor. In addition, pure silica based MCM-41 was prepared and organically functionalized using Grignard reagents post-synthetically. These organic functionalized materials were characterized by XRD, N_2-adsorption, SEM/TEM, Si-MAS NMR and TG/DTA. Potential application of these materials for HPLC separation was evaluated both in normal and reverse phase mode for a series of organic feed mixtures.
