It is well knwon that structural phase transformations in solids are classified into two groups with respect to the necessity of atom diffusion for the transformation: diffusionless transformation and diffusion controlled one. Martensitic transformation, which occurs in many Fe-, Cu- and Ti-based alloys and ceramics, is one of the most typical examples of the former type of the transforamtions, and has been widely studied in order to know its characteristics from physical, metallographical, crystallographical and technological points of view.
