A Development Model of MV Distribution Networks Based on Proper Selection of Technical Basic Parameters and on the Installation of Modern and Reliable Apparatuses

The paper presents a development model for medium voltage distribution networks that has been under construction since about ten years, in one of the European Power Utilities, which has been carrying out relevant improvements in the quality of the electric service as well as important savings. Here below are indicated the values of the main technical parameters which are the base of the MV network development and are able to achieve quality and savings. The most important choices for the design and the management of the networks are also described. The aim of this paper is to bring a contribution to the definition of the choices relevant to the Chinese urban and rural distribution networks, today under development, as described by the Chinese Delegation at the CIRED 2001 in Amsterdam. The quality of electric apparatuses to be installed, is granted by proper manufacturing processes and by strict type tests carried out in qualified laboratories. An example of compliance with the above requirements is given by VEI Power Distribution switch-gears briefly described.
