Decommissioning of a Pilot Reprocessing Facility and Remote Decommissioning Experiences at Sellafield

British Nuclear Group are progressing the decommissioning of the Magnox Reprocessing Pilot Plant at Sellafield. To date the project has developed and implemented innovative remote decommissioning technologies and tooling to ensure delivery of a safe and cost effective solution. The worlds first fully remotely operated Brokk was successfully deployed to enable fully remote dismantling, packaging and export of waste; including pipework, vessels and irradiated fuel. British Nuclear Group have also successfully implemented remote decommissioning systems to enable the decommissioning of significant challenges, including dismantling of Windscale Pile Chimney and Caesium Extraction Facility and wasternretrieval from PCM storage cells.
