Bruce ‘B’ Vacuum Building Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic Spray HeaderRefurbishment

During the fall 2004 Vacuum Building Outage a major refurbishment project wasrnundertaken to improve the strength of the Vacuum Building Fibreglass Reinforced PlasticrnSpray Headers. Based on the option studies and the results of finite element analysis,rnspray headers were strengthened by reinforcing from the inside. This paper describes thernoptions studied to reinforce the spray headers, process for designing the reinforcements,rnsafety aspects of work done and the challenges encountered prior to and during thernoutage. Future monitoring of the spray headers utilizing a material life management planrnand the samples drawn during the outage are also described.
