Theory and practice of cathodic protection and cathodic prevention

摘要

Main milestones of cathodic protection (CP) are reviewed from the theory to the most important industrial applications, with emphasis to the concept of CP by immunity, quasi-immunity and by passivity as introduce by Pourbaix first up to the concept of cathodic prevention, later introduced by Pedeferri. Influencing parameters are reviewed for active and passive materials exposed to the different media, as soil, waters and concrete, as well as protection conditions and CP monitoring.
