In the last years research and patent activity have extensively concerned with liquid crystalline thermosets because of their challenging theoretical implications joined with with unique performances deriving from their structure. More densely crosslinked liquid crystalline thermosets turned out to be interesting materials for thin film applications in electronic packaging and as matrix for advenced composites due to their superior mechanical properties and heat resistance. Networks with poor crosslink density still display a transition from a LC phase to an isotropic phase. In the case of networks with high crosslinking density, the molecular organization characteristic of the LC phase is locked by the crosslinks. No clearing transition can therefore be observed, the ordered structure beeing destroyed only upon decomposition.
