Polymer Blends Containing PU Elastomers: Introducing Specific Interactions and Miscibility

We have studied polymer blends with "moderate specific interactions". The studies show that the blend systems composed of copolymer of styrene and acrylonitrile (SAN) and polyurethane thermoplastic elastomer (PU) possess excellent mechanical properties. The simple blends with PU as minor component realize beneficial combination of the hardness of SAN and toughness of PU exhibiting the properties better than ABS, FTIR and DSC studies demonstrate that the existence of moderate specific interactions between the two components which leads to low interfacial energy and men good combination of the properties.
