The present investigations on natural rock salt from the "Forschungsbergwerk Asse" refer to morphology and texture. The material is coarse-grained, the preferred orientation of the grain boundaries is significant. However, it can change rapidly within a few decimetres. Grain shapes are elongated, flattened and similarly interlocked.rnTo determine the texture, neutron diffraction analysis has been carried out. Interpretation of the resultant pole figures was quite difficult so that a symmetry program has to be used in order to discover hidden symmetries. The measurements led to (110) and (100) fibre textures. The fibre axes correspond to the main shortening axes and form angles of about 90° to the longest grain diameters and to the flow direction, respectively.rnFor some time, structural analysis on halite were carried out with the aim to describe the morphology of the grains. Recently the research has been extended to study their texture as well.
