DISRUPTIONS IN THE TEXTILE AND APPAREL SUPPLY CHAIN

Natural disasters, labor strikes, war, infectious disease, terrorist strikes, all have caused disruptions in the textiles supply chain. This paper discusses the types of disruptions that may occur. Textiles and apparel are global industries. World events have forced companies to consider the external risks associated with operating in a global environment. Research is being conducted to identify the types of risks, the perceived impact of the risks-, and strategies taken to minimize risks. While companies plan for internal risks like plant fire or loss of information technology functions, they have not necessarily planned for external risks.
