THE APPLICATION OF NATURAL DYESTUFFS FROM XVI-XVIII CENTURY POLISH TEXTILES TO MODERN FABRICS. FROM ARCHAEOLOGY TO INDUSTRY

For the last five years the research program on natural dyestuffs has been carried out in the Institute of Natural Fibres in Poznan. The research has been based on historical sources and laboratory trials. Approximately 50 dyestuffs of plant origin were tested in this period for possible application in natural raw materials: flax, wool, jute, silk and hemp. The aim of this paper is to present natural plants dyes used in polish textiles applications in XVI-XVIII century. The West and East cultural influences and their role in creations of colour and design of Polish textiles will be described in those presentation. Those historical methods of dyeing begun inspiration of creation modern palette of colours.
