DEVELOPMENT OF Nu-Torque™ SINGLES RING YARNS FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATION

Novel spinning technology is essential to improve the quality of the textile products and enable the spinners to maintain their competitiveness in the world market. A new technique has been developed in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University to produce Nu-Torque™ singles ring yarns with a single step on the ring spinning machine. Laboratory results have shown that the Nu-Torque™ yarns can improve the quality of both knitted and woven fabrics. The newly developed technology can save production and material costs substantially in the spinning, fabric finishing, as well as the garment manufacturing processes. Five major schemes of developing the technology for industrial application are included, namely the development of devices that are attachable to the existing ring spinning machines to produce Nu-Torque™ singles ring yarns, production of weaving yarns, production of knitting yarns, development of test methods and instruments for the quality assessment, and the procedures and standards for quality management.
