Permeation, diffusion, solubility and sorption are all terms important to understanding fundamentals of package/product interactions. Basics of permeation, concepts such as Fickian, and NonFickian behavior as well as how these concepts are used in determination of shelf life will be covered. Examples of the effects of polymer composition, environmental conditions, cystallinity, additives, and orientation will be provided.
