The design of an ASIC realizing an image processing algorithm asnpart of a biomedical application is described. The Cathedral-II siliconncompiler has been used to specify and simulate the behavior and tonsynthesize a hardware implementation. The high-level optimization tasksnthat were repaired by the performance specifications are discussed. Newnoptimizations are introduced and the interaction of differentnoptimization tasks are highlighted
