High performance ceramics such as silicon-nitride obtain a high potential as structural materials in components that are exposed to aggressive environments. A key-request for a successful application is a joining technology that is adapted to the ceramic's properties. Although ceramics can be joined by direct joining process, most of such joints cannot fulfill high thermal or chemical requirements. The objective of the research described in this paper is the development of two new approaches-active brazing using new filler alloy and diffusion brazing-to the fabrication of high-temperature silicon-nitride joints.
