Hydrodynamic flexible radial seal is a new kind of dynamic radial seal derived from hydrodynamic principle while keeping the merits of conventional flexible radial seal, it greatly improved the working life, and increased the relative rotary speed and pressure difference between the internal chamber and environment. It introduces the technology of hydrodynamic flexible radial seal as well as its corresponding research and application status. Its application in foreign engineering practice shows that the hydrodynamic flexible seal is a new sealing technology with high performance which extended the maximum sealing pressure and linear rotary speed of packed rubber seal up to 35.0 MPa and 3.5 m/s respectively, and it is the same with the working condition of limited installation space and severe abrasive wear. Therefore, it is worth to be extensively used in the domestic rubber and plastic sealing field. Based on the sealing structure and mechanism, 3-D mathematical model of hydrodynamic surface is built, a method of numerical iterative procedure known as "soft elasto-hydrodynamic theory" was put forward. Axial contact stress, an important factor of sealing ability ,is analyzed by finite element analysis software Marc, effects of the structure, material, original assembling conditions on its representative product-Kalsi seal, which can provide the foundation for deeply studying and developing the seal.
