摘要

The inclusion of circulating progenitor cells (CPCs) in matrix implants resulted in more angiogenic and endothelial cells observed within implants. In mouse islet-matrix implants, greater blood vessel growth was observed in collagen-chitosan scaffolds compared to collagen-only. The addition of chitosan to a collagen-based gel supported islet transplant viability and function. These results demonstrate that a collagen-chitosan matrix with CPCs can support neovascularization and has the potential to be a highly vascularized site for islet transplantation for the treatment of diabetes.
