The crystallographic and surface structure of Nickel, Cobalt and Iron electrodeposited from simple solutions of their salts are compared and related to their electrochemical behavior, characterized with square current pulses overimposed during steady state galvanostatic deposition. The growth modes are highly dependent on the surface hydrolysis conditions: the addition of boric acid, which alters these dynamic equilibria, promotes structural and morphological modifications. As a general consequence of the addition of boric acid, the growth mode changes from outgrowth to growth with at least the main texture component having the most densely packed direction in the plane.
